Fluke 87V MAX
Documentation-based review, without independent bench testing. Scores are editorial; prices are reference values. Confirm the seller’s current offer.
A premium industrial option when enclosure protection, higher measurement categories and VFD filtering matter. It costs substantially more than a basic hobby meter and does not replace the Brymen BM869s high-count value proposition.

What We Like
- ✓CAT IV 600 V / CAT III 1000 V
- ✓IP67 enclosure and VFD low-pass filter
Limitations
- ✗Premium price and larger body
- ✗6,000 counts normally; 19,999 high-resolution mode is not 60,000 counts
Overview
The 87V MAX is our premium industrial alternative, not a like-for-like replacement for Brymen BM869s. The reason to consider it is the enclosure, measurement-category coverage and industrial measurement functions; the substantial price premium is difficult to justify for occasional low-voltage hobby work.
Review basis: manufacturer documentation and a dated exact-model Amazon identity check. No hands-on measurements or ownership experience are claimed.
What is documented
Fluke specifies CAT IV 600 V / CAT III 1000 V, TRMS AC measurements, IP67 and a VFD low-pass filter. The normal display is 6,000 counts, with a 19,999-count high-resolution mode. Basic DC voltage accuracy is ±(0.05% + 1 digit), subject to the published conditions.
Tradeoffs against the old recommendation
Do not transfer the Brymen’s high-count, dual-display, dual-temperature or optical-USB claims to this model. The Fluke is relatively large and expensive. Its manufacturer lists 215 ×101 ×60 mm with holster and 698.5 g. These are published figures, not our measurements.
Who should buy it
Consider it for professional work where the stated protection, service features and category ratings match the job. A lower-cost meter is more proportionate for routine battery, continuity and low-energy board checks. The manual’s input, current-duty and frequency limits still apply; this review is not a procedure for working on energized installations.
Sources and review basis
Documentation reviewed 2026-11-01. Manufacturer specifications are distinct from Amazon price and availability checks. No independent bench testing is claimed.
