The 5x Bandwidth Rule

Your oscilloscope bandwidth should be at least 5 times the highest frequency component of your signal. A 50MHz scope can accurately display signals up to about 10MHz. Below this ratio, the scope attenuates the signal and you lose accuracy on rise times and amplitude measurements.

This is a rule of thumb for digital signals. For sine waves, 3x is often sufficient. For signals with fast edges (like SPI clocks), 5x or higher is recommended.
